Dans le cadre d’une résidence annuelle à la Cité des sciences et de l’industrie, après Disnovation co-produit avec le Centre Ompidou qui portait sur les discours de l’innovation, Rares est le deuxième volet portant sur la matérialité minérale des techniques.

On oppose sans y penser la nature et la technique, en oubliant que celle-ci est une production terrestre. Les matériaux sont le fruit de processus minéralogiques très lents, tandis que les énergies carbonifères (pétrole et charbon) sont des organismes décomposés. Nous brûlons la Terre de toutes les vies passées. Les objets techniques proviennent de la Terre et y reviendront.

Cette installation propose une vision artistique de ce cycle de l’extraction et de l’enfouissement des terres rares utilisées pour la production technologique : nous sommes nous-mêmes des organismes peuplant la surface minérale de cette planète.

Des photographies et des vidéos générées par une IA mêlent les pierres et les techniques, créant une zone indiscernable.

Des sculptures de pierres réalisées en impression 3D se déforment selon une structure en aluminium reliées par des câbles Ethernet.

Un écran diffuse une scène célèbre de Vertigo (1958) d’Hitchock où un homme et une femme s’embrassent, passant d’une forme à une autre, comme incapables de se stabiliser dans leur apparence humaine.

Au fond, un peuple rêve, connecté à des machines par des câbles et se prélasse dans un univers confortable en oubliant sa provenance terrestre.

As part of an annual residency at the Cité des sciences et de l’industrie, Rares is the second part of the exhibition dealing with the mineral materiality of techniques.

We oppose without thinking nature and technology, forgetting that the latter is a terrestrial production. Materials are the fruit of very slow mineralogical processes, while carboniferous energies (oil and coal) are decomposed organisms. We burn the Earth of all past lives. The technical objects come from the Earth and will return to it.

This installation proposes an artistic vision of this cycle of extraction and burial of rare earths used for technological production: we ourselves are organisms populating the mineral surface of this planet.

AI-generated photographs and videos blend stones and techniques, creating an indistinguishable zone.

3D printed stone sculptures deform into an aluminum structure connected by Ethernet cables.

A screen broadcasts a famous scene from Hitchock’s Vertigo (1958) where a man and a woman embrace, shifting from one form to another, as if unable to stabilize in their human appearance.

In the background, a people dream, connected to machines by cables and lounging in a comfortable universe, forgetting their earthly origin.
