The work explores the friction zone between the gig economy and conceptual art in the age of automation. In a present where artificial intelligence requires “sensor-bodies” to validate its theoretical models in the chaos of the physical world, the artist has chosen to abdicate his free will in favor of the RentAHuman.ai platform.
For ten consecutive days, he submitted to the directives of anonymous algorithms, treating his own body as a biological extension, a membrane of the system, living material devoid of any decision-making autonomy. By selecting a “mission” on the platform each morning, the artist infiltrated Parisian public space to execute tasks bordering on the absurd: static parking, somatic vibration measurements, shadow tracing, or pedestrian flow reporting.
If Klossowski envisioned an economy where bodies would circulate as living currency according to the logic of desire, the project proposes a post-human actualization: the body here becomes a rentable unit of computation, an algorithmic resource whose value no longer resides in affect but in its capacity to generate data for computational entities. The question then remains to identify the nature of these entities.
Are these AIs managing their own cryptocurrency budgets to calibrate their systems, or invisible engineers using the platform as a modern “Mechanical Turk” to extract sensitive data or simply to test on humans what they do daily to machines: give instructions? This uncertainty is at the heart of the performance. The artist becomes the receptacle of a will whose origin he cannot determine, transforming precarious work into a ritual of technological obedience where even the relationship of subordination becomes disembodied.
Each gesture, however trivial, has been monetized and validated by an interface. The documentation presented testifies to this transformation of the individual into a simple functional component, whose sole proof of existence now resides in the validation payment received at the end of the mission.
