Completion : instauration

This evolving series of images is part of the Completion series and consists in ”restoring” paintings damaged by the passage of time. However, far from being a classical restoration that tries to bring the image back to its original state, the AI used interprets the image to work on and modifies it while trying to respect the style. It is an establishment that brings the past back to the present by counterfactualizing it and making the simulacrum and the possibilities difficult to discern.
Completion questions the impact of statistical induction and the hypermnesia of the Web on the way we will construct history in the future by repairing it, modifying it, and integrating the time that separates us from the original document. The archive is no longer unscathed, it is not a fixed origin but a moving point.

Cette série évolutive d’images fait partie de la série Complétion et consiste à ‘”restaurer” des peintures abîmées par le passage du temps. Toutefois, loin d’être une restauration classique qui tente de ramener l’image à son état d’origine, l’IA utilisée interprète l’image à travailler et la modifie tout en essayant de respecter le style. Il s’agit d’une instauration qui ramène au présent le passé en le contrefactualisant et en rendant difficilement discernable le simulacre et les possibles.
Complétion interroge l’impact de l’induction statistique et l’hypermnésie du Web sur la manière dont nous construirons à l’avenir l’histoire en la réparant, en la modifiant, en y intégrant le temps qui nous sépare du document d’origine. L’archive n’est plus indemne, elle n’est pas une origine fixe mais un point mouvant.
