The prompt Book

Avec les logiciels permettant de traduire du texte en image se rejoue une tradition théologique où l’image est l’expression d’un texte sacré. Ce n’est plus seulement que la première est codée en binaire, c’est que le langage naturel sert à taguer les images qui, introduites dans l’espace latent des réseaux de neurones, devient un espace de probabilités pouvant se recomposer au fil de l’écriture.

Dès lors, les images sont peut-être moins intéressantes que les textes, car ceux-ci sont le symptôme de ce que des personnes imaginent comme passage entre les deux. Quel est le texte de l’image ? C’est l’image qui décrit le texte plutôt que l’inverse et elle qui devient le commentaire.

Ce livre est une compilation classée par date de « prompts » ayant servi à générer des images. Celles-ci comme les logiciels utilisés sont absents car le résultat est anecdotique. Ce qui importe est le texte qui pourrait tout à fait générer une autre image avec un autre logiciel.

À travers cette compilation c’est le texte d’une époque qui imagine les images qui s’écrit.

With software that allows text to be translated into images, a theological tradition is replayed in which the image is the expression of a sacred text. It is not only that the former is coded in binary, but that natural language is used to tag images which, when introduced into the latent space of neural networks, become a space of probabilities that can be recomposed as we write.

From then on, images are perhaps less interesting than texts, because the latter are the symptom of what people imagine as the passage between the two. What is the text of the image? It is the image that describes the text rather than the other way around and it becomes the commentary.

This book is a compilation of “prompts” that were used to generate images, sorted by date. These, like the software used, are absent because the result is anecdotal. What is important is the text that could generate another image with another software.

Through this compilation it is the text of an era that imagines the images that is written.
