The missing place

The garden of the Ryoan-ji in Kyoto has been an inspiration for many artists such as John Cage or David Hockney. In this garden, the stones were arranged so that it was not possible to see the stones at the same time.
The garden was digitized in 3D for the first time thanks to a special authorization. It becomes possible to see all the facets and to move there automatically in an infinite way. The incompleteness of the observer’s position is allied to the infinity of the displacement.
The installation consists of several screens or projections and software that generates in real time a route through the garden.

Le jardin du Ryoan-ji à Kyoto a été une source d’inspiration pour de nombreux artistes tels que John Cage ou David Hockney. Dans ce jardin, les pierres ont été disposées de telle sorte qu’il ne soit pas possible de voir les 15 pierres à la fois.
Le jardin a été numérisé en 3D pour la première fois grâce à une autorisation spéciale. Il devient possible d’en voir toutes les facettes et de s’y déplacer automatiquement de façon infinie. L’incomplétude de la position de l’observateur est alliée à l’infinitude du déplacement.
L’installation se compose de plusieurs écrans ou de vidéoprojections et d’un logiciel qui génère en temps réel un parcours à travers le jardin.
