Journée d’étude sur invitation à l’Institut de France Organisée par Universcience, en partenariat avec l’Académie des sciences. L’histoire des sciences modernes reconnaît l’apport essentiel de savants vulgarisateurs, comme Jean Perrin, George Gamow ou Carl Sagan. Aujourd’hui encore, de nombreux chercheurs s’investissent dans le partage des connaissances. Ils donnent des conférences, créent des associations ou des fondations et nombre d’entre eux prennent part aux actions des musées de sciences et des centres de culture scientifique, technique et industrielle. Au moment où le Palais de la découverte prépare sa rénovation et au jour anniversaire de la naissance de son fondateur Jean Perrin, nous aborderons la question de l’engagement des chercheurs dans la médiation scientifique, notamment orale et en interaction immédiate avec les publics. Elle présentera des exemples de réalisations concrètes, en France et à l’international. Cette réflexion collective conduira à la constitution d’un réseau de recherche sur la médiation scientifique. Après une discussion sur la posture du chercheur vulgarisateur, quatre approches seront présentées : la démonstration spectaculaire, la participation du public à la recherche et à l’innovation, le débat citoyen, et l’approche art et science. Chaque session sera suivie d’un échange avec le public, réunissant praticiens de la médiation et chercheurs du monde académique.

Study day by invitation at the Institut de France Organized by Universcience, in partnership with the Académie des sciences. The history of modern science recognizes the essential contribution of popularizing scientists, such as Jean Perrin, George Gamow or Carl Sagan. Today, many researchers are still involved in sharing knowledge. They give lectures, create associations or foundations and many of them take part in the activities of science museums and centers of scientific, technical and industrial culture. At a time when the Palais de la découverte is preparing its renovation and on the anniversary of the birth of its founder Jean Perrin, we will address the issue of the involvement of researchers in scientific mediation, particularly oral mediation and immediate interaction with the public. It will present examples of concrete achievements, in France and internationally. This collective reflection will lead to the constitution of a research network on scientific mediation. After a discussion on the posture of the popularizing researcher, four approaches will be presented: the spectacular demonstration, the participation of the public in research and innovation, the citizen debate, and the art and science approach. Each session will be followed by an exchange with the public, bringing together mediation practitioners and researchers from the academic world.
