Inter-Terre / Inter-Earth
Nous avions imaginé le voyage entre les étoiles d’une humanité s’arrachant à son attraction terrestre, inventant d’autres lieux et d’autres vies. Devenant une vie de la vie, indépendante de ses origines.
Ce ne fut qu’un moment.
La Terre est devenue notre vaisseau interstellaire : elle est en train de se transformer et en lisant des articles scientifiques nous nous faisons à l’idée que son destin est inanticipable. Nous avons bien quelques pistes, mais nous ne savons pas ce qu’elle va devenir et comment son climat, et tout ce qui en dépend dont nous-mêmes, va évoluer. Nous ne connaissons pas le contenu factuel du devenir, nous ne sommes certain que du devenir comme tel. Rien ne sera comme avant. La technique a bien eu un rôle dans cette réinvention de la Terre, mais elle a déclenché un processus de rétroaction qui la dépasse, nous rappelant que la technique n’est pas isolée, elle appartient à un monde plus vaste qu’elle. Ce n’est pas seulement la continuation d’une métamorphose qui depuis toujours a lieu, c’est une accélération sans précédent de celle-ci et d’une évolution de l’organique qui ne pourra plus s’adapter progressivement par sélection. Il y faudra d’autres dynamiques.
Tout se passe comme si la Terre était en train de muter en une autre planète que nous ne connaissons pas. Cette nouvelle Terre se rapproche de nous, lentement, nous commençons à peine à entrapercevoir ses contours et il est possible que nous n’y ayons pas notre place. Alors nous sommes bel et bien devenus des voyageurs, et si nous changeons de planète c’est en restant sur la Terre et sur ce sol qui se transforme sous nos pieds.

It was only for a moment.
The Earth has become our interstellar spaceship: it is transforming itself, and reading scientific articles we get used to the idea that its destiny is unpredictable. We do have some leads, but we don’t know what it will become and how its climate, and everything that depends on it, including ourselves, will evolve. We do not know the factual content of becoming, we are only certain of becoming as such. Nothing will be as it was before. Technology has indeed had a role in this reinvention of the Earth, but it has triggered a feedback process that goes beyond it, reminding us that technology is not isolated, it belongs to a world larger than itself. It is not only the continuation of a metamorphosis that has always been taking place, it is an unprecedented acceleration of it and of an evolution of the organic that will no longer be able to adapt progressively by selection. Other dynamics will be needed
Everything is happening as if the Earth is mutating into another planet that we do not know. This new Earth is coming closer to us, slowly, we are just beginning to catch a glimpse of its contours and it is possible that we do not belong there. So we have indeed become travelers, and if we change planet it is by staying on the Earth and on this ground that is transforming under our feet.
