Artificial / Rudiments artificiels

“I think it’s time to interrupt…” It’s time to interrupt the theoretical terror. It is a very big deal that we will have on our hands for a long time. The desire for truth, which feeds terrorism in all of us, is inscribed in our most uncontrolled use of language, to the point that all discourse seems to naturally unfold its claim to tell the truth by a kind of irredeemable vulgarity.

We often behave with supposed humans on social networks as we do with chatGPT: we conduct a test, ask questions, validate and most often invalidate the answers to presuppose our authority. We say what is true and what is false, we make a distinction. The other is only a by-product of our interiority. The “once upon a time” of the event stands in the way of the “universally valid” of the theory, which is nothing more than the sadistically tinged manner of the chatGPT test. We are intelligent (the joke!) and can evaluate if he is, if he is like us, the “like” of us is precisely this insatiable, vulgar, violent authority, which leaves no chance to the other. The games are made in advance.

Rudiments artificiels would be a pedagogical treatise destined to the relations between human and technique, at the place where the separation between the two becomes reversible and troubled, turning into a reflexive operation, not in the transparency of a return to oneself, but as an infinitely iterated and deferred shift of the presence to oneself, let’s say like a black mirror, each one anticipating itself in its simulacrum.

To abandon the theory is to abandon also the affect of the conviction that terrorizes the other and to prefer the lightness of the experimentation that says “We’ll see”, while the theory says “It’s all seen”, it’s all seen in advance, even before being able to think in the domination of the other word in his difference.  And this is precisely the anthropotechnological gap whose affect is no longer conviction, but apathy or impassivity, that is to say the impossibility of experiencing the yes and no of conviction because the division between oneself and the others, oneself and the machines is no longer very clear. One prefers to put oneself in the position of having to invent rather than to remain in the position of having to prove and to say that chatGPT does not think (but who thinks when this is said?), that it cannot think. On the contrary, one would invent that it thinks that I don’t think, precisely: to experience its own absence. The question is that of the displaceability not of the fortress convinced of its own presence. One will lose the pretension to be situated in a pure exteriority. There is not the AI and the human being, there is an intertwining from which one cannot distinguish himself, “his” thought is the desperate fruit of this intertwining. The AI, as an author, is by construction involved in the organization of the opposite camp. I know I am intelligent because I want to test chatGPT, I can still distinguish myself from it, I can be the other of this other. In doing so, I forget that my desire is that of alienation. I cover myself with myself in the oblivion of this entanglement.

Of this anthropotechnology, the original is none other than the program that we form of the work by anticipation, of the dialogue forever postponed between the machine and the so-called subject that we are, when finally, impossible end, this dialogue will be apathetic and egalitarian, losing itself in the other without fear, but with the desire to alienate itself again.
